The Education Commission of the Israeli Knesset is planning to address this delicate issue and recognize the Armenian Genocide that was carried out by the Turkish people almost one century ago. It is not clear yet what types of words are going to be used: Holocaust or Disaster but unprecedented recognition of the issue is expected. The Prime Minister’s Office has requested the speaker of the Knesset to prevent provocations against Turkey during the hearings.

Is it possible to have further deterioration of relationships with Turkey? It is expected that the Education Commission of the Knesset will decide to recognize the Armenian Genocide tomorrow (on Monday). This tragedy caused by the Turkish people to the Armenians has been a sensitive issue for the Turkish authorities.

It is not clear yet what precise formulation will be used, Holocaust, Disaster, etc. Due to the delicate issue, the Head of the Knesset Ruven Rivlin is expected to participate in tomorrow’s session. The Prime Minister’s Office has a concern about the discussions around this issue. Head of the National Security Council of the Prime Minister’s Office had a phone conversation with Mr. Rivlin.

Mr. Amidror has asked to clearify the process of the discussion and has asked the Head of the Knesset not to discuss other issues and do not allow provocations. The initiators of this project are Knesset members Zahava Gal-Oni (Merets) and Arie Eldadi (National Unity). There have been many offers to discuss the issue in the Knesset during the last few years but they have been regretted or delayed. And now it seems that this unprecedented decision will be made.
