The meeting of representatives of the Armenian and Jewish communities

The meeting of representatives of the Armenian and Jewish communities

On November 22 in the frames of the “Union of Armenians and Jews of Russia” a meeting of the representatives of the Armenian and Jewish communities in Moscow was held, during which the issue of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 in the Ottoman Empire was discussed. The meeting was organized with the support of the international Zionist movement “Or-Zion” – one of the initiators of the foundation of the “Union of Armenians and Jews of Russia”.

Video clips and photos with archival cadres about the Armenian Genocide were displayed during the meeting, as well as some urgent questions discussed concerning the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the international community and especially Israel. The participants of the meeting mentioned that the Israeli society does not deny the fact of the Armenian Genocide and in general, the warming of the Armenian-Jewish relationships will be beneficial for the both sides. Let us recall that the issue of the official recognition of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 in the Ottoman Empire by Israel has been recently put on the agenda of the Israeli Knesset but later it was postponed for a long time by the chairman of the Knesset, Alex Miller.

It Is noteworthy that during the event a statement was made saying that the movement “Or-Zion” which is one of the major Zionist movements in the CIS, headed by Levy Sheltovitskiy and Eliezer Fridlyand, officially recognizes the Armenian Genocide and plans to participate in the events devoted to the memory of the victims of this heinous crime against humanity on April 24, 2012.
