Any issue related to national minorities, including language, is on our agenda: The Deputy Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Rustam Bakoyan said this during the meeting with the delegation of the CoE Committee of Experts of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages.
The meeting took place on March 3 in Q&A session.
The Head of the delegation Lyudmila Popovich inquired how much the representatives of national minorities are involved in the legislative work.
Rustam Bakoyan spoke about the procedure of the revisions of the draft law On National Minorities, informed that the draft is put into circulation. A number of work discussions were also held. He stressed that representatives from the communities of Armenia’s national minorities also took part in the discussions, as well as interested experts of the latter’s rights.
Rustam Bakoyan presented, in particular, the problems in the Yazidi community, regarding the teaching of Yazidi language teachers, to set up a chair of the Yazidi language at the Armenian State Pedagogical University. Reference was made to the issue of place names in the communities of national minorities, placing them on their mother tongue.
Rustam Bakoyan emphasized the importance of the committee’s work and the purpose of making positive changes in the lives of national minority communities.
The NA deputies Irina Gasparyan and Zemfira Mirzoeva presented the issues in the Assyrian community.
Irina Gasparyan touched upon the issues of national minorities in the development of the communities, the preservation of the monuments of the Assyrian community.
Zemfira Mirzoeva also spoke about the issue of renovating a pre-school educational institution in the Upper Dvin community. Referring to the process of enlarging the communities, the MP noted that in most of the local government communities there are no representatives from the communities of the national minority.
