On February 24, within the framework of his working visit to Geneva, RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with Mirjana Spolyaric Eger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross. The RA Foreign Ministry reported this.
The meeting touched upon issues of cooperation between Armenia and the ICRC. Ararat Mirzoyan and Mirjana Spolyaric Eger discussed humanitarian issues.
Minister Mirzoyan touched upon the issue of the release of Armenian prisoners of war and hostages illegally held in Azerbaijan, the ongoing sham trials, expressing concern about the health condition of the aforementioned persons and the possible impact on them.
Among other issues on the agenda, the additional efforts being made and needed to clarify the fate of missing persons were touched upon. Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized the readiness and steps expressed by the RA to address the issue, taking into account the sensitivity of the issue for the family members of the missing persons.
The RA Foreign Minister noted that the resolution of humanitarian issues can be an important factor in the establishment of a comprehensive settlement and sustainable peace.
During the meeting, Minister Mirzoyan presented the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, including in the context of work on the text of the peace treaty, emphasizing the importance of demonstrating political will on the part of both sides in concluding it.
