Minister of Environment of Armenia Hambardzum Matevosyan held a working meeting in New York with Norway’s Minister of Climate and Environment Andreas Eriksen.
“During the meeting, we discussed a wide range of environmental issues, including the implementation of joint initiatives in the fields of environmental protection and climate change, waste management, improvement of air, water, and soil quality, forest management, as well as the effective management of specially protected natural areas.
Placing particular emphasis on the implementation process of the ‘Environment’ and ‘Climate Change’ chapters of the Armenia–EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA), we discussed the launch of joint programs within its framework.

In this context, since Norway is one of the initiators of the ‘High Ambition Coalition to End Plastic Pollution,’ we agreed to expand cooperation in reducing plastic pollution, including steps to support the introduction and improvement of extended producer responsibility systems. In the coming days, we plan to sign a memorandum of cooperation.
We also touched upon the organizational processes of the COP17 of the Convention on Biological Diversity, which will take place in Armenia in 2026. I informed that we are currently working with the Secretariat of the Convention to use their scientific and organizational expertise to hold the conference at a high level. We also discussed the Global Review of the environmental agenda and the extensive scope of our joint actions. I noted that the upcoming COP30 in Brazil this year is also an important platform to advance our shared priorities.
We reached an agreement to deepen professional cooperation both in Armenia and in Norway, and to jointly find practical solutions to the environmental challenges facing our country and the world,” Matevosyan said.
