After the bilateral meeting, a panel discussion was held within the framework of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum with the participation of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, the focus of which was the developments in the South Caucasus.
Ararat Mirzoyan stated that constantly returning to the past and focusing on obstacles may not be constructive and may not allow achieving beneficial solutions. Mirzoyan responded to Jeyhun Bayramov’s statements that in order to sign the peace treaty, it is necessary for the Minsk Group to be dissolved and amendments to the Constitution of Armenia to be made, since it allegedly contains territorial claims to Azerbaijan.
“The desire of the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the people of Armenia is to establish stable peace in our region. Including, and first of all, we are discussing relations with Azerbaijan and the normalization of relations. We managed to agree on the text of the draft peace treaty after long negotiations, and we also proposed to immediately start discussions on the place and date of signing the agreement.
Does the agreement, the agreed text answer all possible questions? Of course not. This is a basis, the beginning of relations. Of course, there are many questions, and we can continue our discussion on them, we can continue to explore new opportunities for cooperation. It is important to note that the agreed text contains a provision according to which we are creating a bilateral commission to discuss all remaining issues, including issues that may arise in connection with the interpretation of this or that provision of the agreement, and the discussion of many other possible issues.
We are confident that we have all the positive prerequisites to sign the agreement, to start a new stage of dialogue, a new era of peaceful relations, and to bring prosperity to the South Caucasus and beyond,” Mirzoyan said.
