Concert dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Charles Aznavour at UNESCO Headquarters

On November 25, a concert dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of world-famous chansonnier Charles Aznavour was held at UNESCO headquarters. It was organized by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, the Permanent Representation of Armenia to UNESCO, with the support of the National Commission of Armenia for UNESCO and the “National Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia” SNCO.

The opening speeches of the concert evening were delivered by Daniel Danielyan, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, Aram Hakobyan, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to UNESCO, Isabelle Devigne, Chair of the Group of Francophone Ambassadors of UNESCO, Chargé d’Affaires of France, and Xin Qiu, Deputy Director-General of UNESCO.

In his speech, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia highly appreciated the rich cultural heritage of the legendary artist and emphasized the importance of his humanitarian activities, recalling his great contribution to the dissemination of values ​​that are of cornerstone importance for UNESCO.

At the concert titled “Une vie d’Amour”, the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia, under the direction of Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Eduard Topchyan, presented the audience with the rich songwriting and musical heritage of Charles Aznavour. Soloists Inga Arshakyan, Gor Sujyan, Gurgen Baveyan, as well as guest singer Jules Grison and pianist Nobuyaki Nakajima performed.

The concert was attended by heads of diplomatic missions accredited to UNESCO, diplomats, hundreds of representatives of French public and political circles, and the Armenian community.

Reference: The application for the 100th anniversary of Charles Aznavour was jointly submitted by Armenia and France, with the support of Andorra, Italy, Luxembourg, Monaco, Portugal, Senegal and UNESCO, a group of more than 80 Francophone ambassadors, and was unanimously included in the UNESCO Calendar of Anniversaries of Famous People and Important Events for 2024-2025, at the 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference.
