Deputy Foreign Minister presents challenges arising from marine pollution at discussion in Nice

On June 10, in Nice, within the framework of the Third UN Ocean Conference, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan participated and delivered remarks at the panel discussion on “Preventing and significantly reducing marine pollution of all kinds, in particular from land-based activities”.

In his remarks, the Deputy Minister presented the challenges arising from marine pollution, emphasizing its negative impact on biodiversity, food security, public health and economic development.

The Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia highlighted the necessity of integrated approaches to ensure environmental sustainability, emphasizing that the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework sets forth an ambitious agenda aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its goals.

Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan presented to the participants the vision of Armenia for the successful organization of the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), to be held in Yerevan in 2026. He noted that within the scope of the Conference, the first global review of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework commitments is envisaged, emphasizing that the effective implementation of the commitments requires joint and coordinated efforts of all stakeholders.
