Hakob Arshakyan meets with Presidents of Chamber of Representatives and Senate of Belgium

Within the framework of the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, being held in the capital of Uzbekistan Tashkent, the Vice President of the RA National Assembly Hakob Arshakyan met with the President of the Chamber of Representatives of Belgium Peter De Roover and the President of the Senate Vincent Blondel.

The RA NA Vice President expressed gratitude to Peter De Roover and the Chamber of Representatives of Belgium for their permanent support for Armenia and the Armenian people and for their principled position on important issues.
Peter De Roover reaffirmed the commitment of Belgium to support on important political issues. He noted that in 2015, the recognition of the Armenian Genocide was a significant step, and Belgium is ready to support Armenia, if possible. Touching upon the issue of visa liberalisation, Peter De Roover underscored that they are ready to support the process: the process and deadlines are more technical issues than political.
Hakob Arshakyan presented details to his colleagues on the draft law On Launching the Accession Process of the Republic of Armenia to the European Union adopted by the RA National Assembly on March 26, which was brought to the parliament by the civil initiative.
Highlighting the launching of the visa liberalization and the RA-EU cooperation within the framework of the European Peace Facility, the NA Vice President expressed his expectation that the new Armenia-EU partnership agenda will be signed in the near future.
The President of the Belgian Senate emphasized the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, wishing to be informed about its perspectives.
The NA Vice President of the RA National Assembly introduced to his counterpart the Crossroads of Peace initiative presented by the RA Government to normalize relations with neighbours and establish stable peace in the region.
The interlocutors touched upon the efforts aimed at establishing peace in the region, the agreed Armenian-Azerbaijani peace agreement, the new preconditions and artificial obstacles put forward by the Azerbaijani side for its signing, as well as the solution of all humanitarian issues of vital importance on the path to achieving peace.
