Jerusalem Brotherhood of St. James held a meeting with the participation of Jerusalem friars from various countries of the world, during which Nourhan Archbishop Manoogian was elected Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem.
Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem Torkom Archbishop Manoogian had passed away on October 12 at the age of 93. He had been elected Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem in 1990.
According to the Statute, 5 contenders had been presented for the position of the Patriarch and as a result of morning elections 2 contenders had remained in struggle- the Patriarchate’s Director of Ecumenical Affairs Archbishop Aris Shirvanian and the current Grand Sacristan Archbishop Nourhan Manoogian.
Nourhan Manoogian has received 17 votes during the elections, 15 votes Aris Shirvanian and one person had abstained. Thus, Nourhan Archbishop Manoogian was elected a Patriarch.
