Reuters. Thick smoke cloaked Beirut’s southern suburbs and loud blasts were heard on Tuesday (March 3) as Israel escalated airstrikes on the Lebanese capital, targeting Hezbollah-controlled areas amid heightened regional tensions.
A new front in the U.S. and Israel’s war on Iran opened on Monday (March 2) when the Lebanese Hezbollah militia, one of Tehran’s principal allies in the Middle East, launched missiles and drones towards Israel.
The Lebanese state news agency NNA reported that at least 31 people had been killed and 149 injured in the ongoing strikes.
The Israeli military confirmed early on Tuesday that it was conducting operations against Hezbollah command centers and weapons storage facilities in the area.
