On October 15, 2025, the programs dedicated to the 115th anniversary of the Armenian Relief Society (ARS) commenced with an official ceremony marking the unveiling of the statue of the Society’s founder, Aknuni, in Armenia, with the participation of ARS members from all over the world.
The Jerusalem Armenian Relief Society (JARS) was founded in 1937, initially named the “Sose” Society, then renamed the “Armenian Red Cross,” and eventually established as the “Armenian Relief Society.” The society is composed of Armenian women, and for years, the Jerusalem branch has been led by its President, Mrs. Noemi Nalbandian. Below is a list of the women actively involved in the Society’s work:
Vice President: Mrs. Siran Sahakian
Mrs. Mery Abrahamian
Mrs. Liza Grigoryan
Mrs. Osan Deldelian
Mrs. Garin Nalbandian
Mrs. Sose Grigoryan
For decades, the Society has served as a bridge, uniting the loyalty of the diaspora with the needs of the homeland, centered around several core values, including humanitarianism and support for Armenian families.
One of the Society’s most popular and highly anticipated charitable initiatives is the Bazaar, which has become a traditional event that gathers community members and dozens of foreign guests in the Armenian hospitable neighborhood.
This year, the Bazaar was held at an exceptionally high level, bringing together Armenian, Arab, Jewish, and other visitors, who particularly enjoyed the masterpieces of Armenian cuisine.
The Armenian Bazaar – A Hub of Armenian Art, Flavors, and Charity
These annual bazaars have stood out for years with their distinct Armenian character, taste, and cultural atmosphere. During the event, the following are offered for sale:
Embroidery masterpieces crafted by Armenian women from Jerusalem,
Hand-painted ceramics and national handicrafts representing the finest examples of Armenian craftsmanship, created by world-renowned Armenian families,
Handmade items that preserve the age-old traditions of Armenian crafts,
A variety of Armenian dishes and pastries that convey the warmth and flavors of the Armenian home.
All of this not only showcases the uniqueness of Armenian culture but also creates an opportunity for the funds raised to directly benefit needy families in Armenia and Artsakh, as well as students and wounded soldiers.
The Bazaar is Held Under the Patronage of His Beatitude Patriarch Nurhan Arisian
The bazaars are organized under the high patronage of the Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem, His Beatitude Patriarch Nurhan Arisian, which gives the initiative a sense of official recognition, spiritual significance, and high status. The continuous support and presence of the Patriarch enhance the purpose and content of the event, while also strengthening communal unity.
The Path of Support – Armenia and Artsakh
Over the years, all funds raised have been directed towards:
Needy families in Armenia and Artsakh,
Wounded soldiers who have medical, rehabilitation, and daily living needs,
Students receiving financial support for tuition or other educational expenses,
Community and social programs that assist the most needy families in the local Armenian community.
The Mission of the ARS – A Symbol of Collective Strength and Loyalty
The initiatives carried out by the ARS have continuously strengthened the connection between the Armenian diaspora and the homeland. These programs have become not only a platform for charity but also a symbol of cultural, national, and spiritual unity.
The Road Ahead
The Jerusalem Armenian Relief Society will continue its humanitarian mission, maintaining the boundless dedication with which it has served the Armenian people for decades. Future generations will remember this tradition as the finest example of patriotism, unity of the diaspora, and selfless love for Armenia and Artsakh.
