There is a risk of escalation as long as peace is not finally achieved and signed, Mirzoyan

“As long as we have not finally reached peace, have not signed, and have not shaken hands, the risk of escalation remains,” said Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during preliminary discussions on the 2024 state budget execution at the National Assembly.

“This escalation could result from something technical-like a spark causing a fire-or, on the other hand, it could be part of a deliberate plan,” he added, commenting on U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s recent remarks regarding the potential risk of conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“In my view, the U.S. Secretary of State was not conveying any specific warning. At least, that’s my impression,” Mirzoyan said.

Responding to a question about why the Azerbaijani side continues to open fire even when a mutually agreed peace text is on the table, Mirzoyan stated that Armenia’s position is clear: to jointly establish an investigation mechanism that will determine-through its operation-whether soldiers are acting under orders or independently.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently stated that Washington is focused on establishing peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, noting that they see a risk of conflict and are actively engaged in efforts to prevent it.
