U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau posted on his X microblog, stating that he had the honor of witnessing how U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in recent days, held phone conversations with the leaders of India and Pakistan to help prevent a dangerous escalation of the situation.
“President Donald Trump and U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance have made it clear to those working in their administration that our goal is to promote and pursue peace—whether between India and Pakistan, Russia and Ukraine, Israel and its neighbors, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, Azerbaijan and Armenia, or other nations.
As diplomats—and frankly, as human beings—our calling is to prevent or end war.
We are proud that our team was able to fulfill that commitment today, and we commend the leadership of India and Pakistan for choosing wisdom and restraint,” he wrote.
As a reminder, India and Pakistan have agreed—through Washington’s mediation—to an immediate and full ceasefire.
