Eighty-seven members of the U.S. House of Representatives have issued a joint statement addressed to the U.S. Secretary of State, calling for the safe and dignified return of forcibly displaced Armenians to Nagorno-Karabakh—free from violence and fear of persecution.
“This step is consistent with international law and would contribute to a just and lasting peace in the region,” the statement reads.
The lawmakers expressed concern that Azerbaijan is systematically destroying Armenian cultural heritage, emphasizing the importance of its preservation. They also stressed the urgent need for the release of Armenian prisoners of war and detainees.
