The European Union welcomes the agreement reached on August 8 at the White House, in the presence of the U.S. President, between Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev. According to the EU, this was a significant step toward ending a conflict that has lasted for decades.

“It is now important that the agreements are implemented in a timely manner, and that the Peace Treaty is signed and ratified. This is an important and decisive step toward the full normalization of bilateral relations, based on the mutual recognition of the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the inviolability of borders of the countries, in line with the Alma-Ata Declaration,” the statement reads.

It is noted that the implementation of the agreements will have a positive impact on the overall peaceful development of the region.

“The EU fully supports the process of normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and has worked for years with both sides and international partners to create conditions for lasting peace,” the EU stated.

The declaration was joined by Albania, Georgia, Iceland, Moldova, Norway, North Macedonia, San Marino, Serbia, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and other countries.
