Yerevan Municipality’s GIS Project Receives Prestigious “Special Achievement in GIS” Award in the U.S.

From July 14 to 18, the most prestigious global GIS users’ conference was held in the United States, attracting approximately 20,000 participants. During the event, Sargis Manukyan, Director of the “Yerevan City Management Technologies Center” CJSC, presented the unified GIS system that was launched and implemented at Yerevan Municipality about a year ago, highlighting its effectiveness.

“I am pleased to announce that out of around 100,000 projects submitted for the awards during the conference, Yerevan Municipality’s GIS project was selected among the 78 best international projects,” said Sargis Manukyan, adding that it received the prestigious Special Achievement in GIS award.

“To give you a sense of what ‘prestigious’ means in this context — among the 78 awardees were organizations such as British Petroleum, Bank of America, the UAE Ministry of Environment and Landscaping, and other renowned institutions and cities,” he noted.

Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan remarked that the municipality has reached a significant milestone in terms of digitalization and GIS system implementation, and it is important that this achievement has not gone unnoticed beyond Armenia’s borders.

“This award is truly an honor. It signifies that we are moving in the right direction. However, what matters most to us is that the system we’ve developed must be maximally and continuously integrated into our internal processes. All our administrative districts must operate using this system,” Avinyan stated.
