Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia Zhanna Andreasyan participated in the “EducAItion 2026” ministerial conference held in Israel, which is dedicated to developing policies for personalized education in the age of artificial intelligence.
The Minister delivered a speech, emphasizing that artificial intelligence not only transforms approaches to education, but is also becoming a key driver of development in science, the economy, and innovation. According to her, Armenia is actively following global processes related to the integration of AI tools into the education system, while also developing its own experience in this field.
Zhanna Andreasyan noted that Armenia is among the few countries where pilot AI courses have already been introduced in schools. She highlighted the AI Generation educational program in upper secondary schools, STEP.AI, as well as the multi-level “AI Generation” educational initiative aimed at training specialists in the field of AI—from school education to postgraduate studies.
“These initiatives already cover dozens of schools across all regions of Armenia. Hundreds of teachers and more than 600 students are involved in the programs. Over the years, participants have not only strengthened their mathematical and programming skills, but have also acquired AI literacy, critical thinking, teamwork, and innovative problem-solving abilities. At present, the programs remain pilot projects implemented through close cooperation between the state and leading IT companies, which reflects mutual trust and a shared commitment to introducing learners to AI tools at an early stage,” Zhanna Andreasyan stated.
According to the Minister, the educational programs of Armenia’s universities are aimed at providing in-depth knowledge in fields related to artificial intelligence.
The speech also addressed international technology events, particularly WCIT 2024, which was held in Armenia for the second time, contributing to the country’s positioning as a technological leader.
Zhanna Andreasyan also presented the activities of the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies in launching a generative artificial intelligence educational program, noting that it will contribute to the development of comprehensive AI literacy among young people.
“In Armenia, these initiatives are not merely educational reforms; they are the pillars of our education system. Geopolitical realities and limited natural resources compel us to make the most of an unlimited resource—the human mind. AI is the key to equal opportunities for us, enabling us to move beyond the boundaries of traditional economies. We are convinced that the new generation of AI will transform the economy and contribute to the effective implementation of digital transformation policies in Armenia. Our duty is to prepare learners not only for today’s demands, but also for tomorrow’s skills, ensuring that they become creators of change rather than mere followers,” said Zhanna Andreasyan.
In concluding her remarks, the Minister emphasized that by the end of the decade it is planned to introduce AI educational modules in more than 80 percent of Armenia’s schools, and that graduates of the education system should become creators of artificial intelligence, not merely its consumers.
The delegation led by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport also includes the Minister’s Advisor, Arman Andrikyan.
