Armenia may face electricity demand as AI factories are developing rapidly, Pashinyan

“Until very recently, we were saying that Armenia had a surplus of electricity. Now we need to talk about the possibility that Armenia may face electricity demand because AI factories are developing at a rapid pace, and AI factories consume electricity on a scale beyond our imagination.”
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during a briefing, referring to statements by the President of Azerbaijan concerning the arrival of Azerbaijani specialists in Armenia who studied the possibility of constructing a power transmission line through Armenian territory.
“At this point, naturally, nothing has changed in our overall situation, but the plans that investors have, particularly regarding the construction of new AI facilities in Armenia, are forcing us to consider that we need to revise our energy strategies so that we have the capacity to meet these new conditions and expectations. But overall, I want to say that our energy strategy is 100% energy independence,” he said, noting that Armenia has resources for developing solar power and energy storage facilities.
“But this does not mean that we will stay out of international electricity trade. At times, we may export electricity, and at times, import it, including the possibility of having partnerships and cooperation with Azerbaijan, including in terms of exporting and importing electricity, as we do with all other countries-with Turkey, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Georgia, and so on,” he said.
