Iran to charge fees for commercial ships passing through Strait of Hormuz

איראן תגבה עמלות עבור ספינות מסחריות העוברות במצר הורמוז
Iran will require commercial vessels to pay fees for passage through the Strait of Hormuz, according to a new law, Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reported.
Aladdin Boroujerdi, a member of the Iranian parliament’s National Security Committee, said, “Security and passage services for ships through the waterway will be provided on a paid basis.”
Since February 28, when the U.S.-Israeli operation began, Iran has effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping. Commercial vessels have repeatedly been targeted by drone attacks, with passage allowed only for ships from friendly or neutral countries.
