Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the Rosatom State Corporation, and the delegation led by him, Armenian Government press office reports.
The interlocutors discussed issues related to the extension of the operational lifespan of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant’s second power unit and the Russian side’s proposals regarding the construction of a new nuclear power unit in the country.
The Prime Minister noted that the Government of Armenia is continuing discussions on proposals received from international partners regarding the construction of a new nuclear power unit, and that a decision will be made in the near future. Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that the final decision will be based exclusively on economic considerations, taking into account price, quality, safety, timelines, and guarantees.
Alexey Likhachev noted the constructive cooperation with Armenian partners, including efforts to extend the operational lifespan of the Armenian NPP’s active power unit. Subsequently, the Rosatom Director General presented details regarding proposals and potential mechanisms for the construction of a new NPP, as well as small and medium-capacity power units.
