Statement by Canada’s Foreign Minister on 111th anniversary of Armenian Genocide

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand issued a statement on the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

“Today, we commemorate the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day. We stand with Canadian Armenians to honour the memory of the 1.5 million Armenians who perished and all those who suffered during this dark chapter in history.

We reaffirm the importance of preserving the collective memory of those who endured these massacres. Recognition carries with it a solemn commitment; to remember the persecutions, the crimes against humanity inflicted upon the Armenian people and to fight against denialism and hatred.

As we commemorate the Genocide Remembrance, Condemnation and Prevention Month, it is a time for us to reflect on and learn from the stories of all the victims and survivors of genocide,” Anita Anand stated on X.
