Saying something like this means bringing the negotiations and what is happening to a deadlock, and simply exacerbating the situation. Armenia’s Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan said this during parliamentary briefings, answering the question of whether Armenia, as a precondition for signing a peace treaty, would present to Azerbaijan the issue of returning Armenian captives and hostages.
According to Alen Simonyan, such processes are carried out through diplomatic channels.
“This is not done with the logic of preconditions, it is done through diplomatic channels, which has been done over the past year, and out of 150 or so captives, we currently have 23 confirmed captives, some of whom, 12, if I am not mistaken, were already captured and taken hostage in 2023,” he said and added. “And presenting ultimatums to any party – they to us, we to them – means reaffirming what certain parties and people working against our state are doing today.”
