Reuters. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Friday (August 7), before the signing of a joint defence agreement between Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signed the joint defence agreement on Friday, Pakistan’s foreign ministry said, as the three countries sought to deepen security cooperation amid heightened military tensions and conflicts in the Middle East.
The agreement says that any armed attack on any one of the three countries will be regarded as an attack against them all, the statement from the ministry said.
The three nations share growing concerns over Middle East chaos and the role of revolutionary Shi’ite Iran and an increasingly assertive Israel, as the United States struggles to contain regional threats.
The pact is purely defensive in nature and pledges mutual support only for defence, a Turkish official said on Friday, adding that the agreement was not against any specific actor and was open to other regional countries as well.
