At the European Weightlifting Championships for juniors and U23 athletes, currently taking place in the Albanian city of Durrës, Armenia’s Narek Mkrtchyan (Vanadzor) won the bronze medal in the snatch in the junior men’s 85 kg weight category.
Mkrtchyan successfully completed all three attempts in the snatch, lifting 145 kg, 150 kg and 153 kg, respectively, to secure the bronze medal in the discipline.
In the clean and jerk, Mkrtchyan succeeded in only one of his three attempts, lifting 185 kg. He was unable to hold 189 kg overhead and finished fourth in the discipline.
With a combined total of 338 kg in the two events, Narek Mkrtchyan won the bronze medal at the European Junior Championships.
Arayik Harutyunyan, President of the Weightlifting Federation of Armenia, attended the medal ceremony for this weight category.
