Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan and Mayor of the French city of Marseille Benoît Payan have signed a Declaration of Establishing Brotherly Ties.

“Yerevan and Marseille are opening a new chapter of cooperation,” Avinyan said in a statement on social media.

“Today, together with Marseille Mayor Benoît Payan we signed a mutual declaration of establishing brotherly relations. This step formulates our joint goals and strengthens our partnership of more than 30 years based on mutual respect, historical memory and common views on development. Our cities are facing the same challenges: Both Yerevan and Marseille seek to build an effective, solidarity and human-centered urban environment. I believe that the signed declaration will become the foundation of a project that would exclude formalities and become the platform for practical results and mutually-beneficial programs. Yerevan continues to be a reliable partner aimed at constructive cooperation,” he said.
