US President Donald Trump announced that negotiations between Washington and Tehran are ongoing, claiming that the Islamic Republic “has agreed to just about everything we need.”
Speaking with CNBC early Friday, July 3, Trump expressed optimism regarding the outcome of the talks, asserting that the Iranian regime has been “totally defeated militarily” and that its defense capabilities have been severely degraded.
Comparing the recent conflict to long-term American military engagements in Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Korea, Trump claimed his administration had managed to decisively defeat the Islamic Republic within the first four months. “They have some missiles left, but if necessary, we could wipe them out too,” Trump added.
The US President also noted that American forces had struck Islamic Republic targets multiple times over the past few weeks. According to Trump, these hard-hitting strikes were carried out in retaliation after an Iranian drone was launched at a vessel, while back-and-forth communication has nevertheless continued alongside the military engagements.
In another part of his remarks, Trump claimed that, through the deployment of its naval forces, the United States has brought Iran’s maritime routes under total control, preventing ships from reaching the country. He highlighted that the Islamic Republic is currently grappling with severe inflation, plummeting revenues, and food shortages, suggesting that if a final accord is reached, the US could provide Iran with wheat, corn, and soybeans sourced exclusively from American farmers.
Trump went on to reject a recent report by The New York Times, which claimed Iran is in a better position now than it was four months ago, reiterating that its military infrastructure has been dismantled and its top leaders and senior commanders have been killed.
The US President concluded by reinforcing that the primary objective of the military campaign against Iran has always been to prevent the Islamic Republic from obtaining nuclear weapons, emphasizing that Washington will never allow Tehran to acquire an atomic bomb.
